Abstract: The web has seen the explosion of social networking tools, which are empowering ordinary people to connect, collaborate and contribute in a global collaboration. These social software applications are now the hottest properties of the Internet users. This article explains the how Web 2.0 tools could be applied in academic libraries to convert them as A-Lib 2.0 or Academic Library 2.0. The paper further includes a few cases from different libraries which have already adopted these new services. One recent survey found that 34.41% of total academic libraries in New York State are using Web 2.0 Services; the major ones include IM, Blogs, RSS, Book marking, Wiki, Social Networks, etc. Library 2.0 has changed the traditional way of thinking about the profession where library only engage in creating the content and services for user shifted to the side of user where librarian will enable user to create them for themselves URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1278 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This paper describes a method for synthesizing images that match the texture appearance of a given digitized sample. This synthesis is completely automatic and requires only the “target” texture as input. It allows generation of as much texture as desired so that any object can be covered. It can be used to produce solid textures for creating textured 3-d objects without the distortions inherent in texture mapping. It can also be used to synthesize texture mixtures, images that look a bit like each of several digitized samples. The approach is based on a model of human texture perception, and has potential to be a practically useful tool for graphics applications. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/497 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The paper describes the importance of journal as an important medium of communicating recent developments in scientific research and the dependence of academic community of any University for their research work. It also presents the latest trend of journal publishing in electronic medium. Since, Indira Gandhi Memorial Library is the first University Library to introduce one of the major online medium to their academic community by subscribing EBSCO Online Journals Database, an analytical study of the usage statistics was undertaken in terms of number of sessions ,searches, abstracts and full text articles in order to measure deficiencies in the system. The data indicates that the usage is found extensive during initial years than the subsequent years. Abstracts and full text articles are more extensively referred Linking activity is also found to be constantly increased.. It is observed that the user’s unawareness regarding these developments is primarily affecting the usage of this new medium, whereas audit, renewal procedures, networking problems, etc. are added to the decline of the usage of e-journals. The paper suggests that a lot of orientation and publicity is still required to the academic community to increase the level of usage of such databases. Abstract: Data mining is a form of artificial intelligence that uses automated processes to find information. Although its use in libraries is to be explored, data mining has been used successfully for several years in the scientific and business communities for tracking behavior of individuals and groups, processing medical information, and a number of other applications. This system has been designed for librarians to help them manage the library easily. Data Mining involves different kinds of technologies, solutions and techniques and because of its pattern-recognition features; it can be applied to a large database. Data mining software can relate one field to the other field in the database. It can be used to analyze the on-line users' behavior and to predict the future potential users. Here, we have applied data mining to library systems using artificial intelligence technology. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/226 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has a very vast meaning and it has been dominating each and every aspect of this universe. Due to ICT only whole world has been become a global village and the other side ICT is accelerating information explosion, which leads to the problem of bibliographical control. But there are some tools, which can help us to manage these digital contents in a systematic order for use. The concept of digital library is very much suitable for information management. Here, we have Greenstone and DSpace Open Source Software for content creation, which are being used for maintaining an institutional repository. After content creations, the objective should be accessing these contents globally, for this purpose we need some broadband networks. In India, UGC-Infonet is the example for such kind of country-wide network which is being responsible for improving the higher educational system in the country with state-of-the-art technology. Now contents and infrastructure with strong network are with us, UGC-Infonet: E-Journals Consortium is one of the good examples which show that how we can facilitate the educational system across the country through this kind of ICT system. Abstract: The ongoing Information Technology(IT) revolution has deeply affected almost all areas of our life and all aspects of humans activity. Libraries, Information and Documentation Centres(LIBIDOCS) are no exception to the impact of Information Technology. The application of IT in different types of libraries in India has gained sufficient momentum. The IT application tools are essential for providing efficient and cost effective library and information services to the user community in the present scenario. Review of literature reveals a number of studies conducted in the application of IT in LIBIDOCS in the recent years. This paper presents one such study which has been carried out by surveying the application of IT among academic LICS in and around Chennai. There are nearly 100 academic institutions at graduate, post graduate and research levels in various disciplines. Libraries of 45 institutions like universities and colleges have been covered in the survey to analyse the nature, extent and types of application of IT based services. It also studies the areas of IT application, collection development policy , manpower development and the attitude of staff towards IT application. Finally, it also analyses the reasons for poor use of IT if any, and concludes objectively that application of IT in university libraries would certainly bring about orderly operations in Library and Information Manager Environment (LIME) without much of human interventions.
