These include tracing the development from print to e-book; various publishing models for ebooks; various distribution models for e-books, emerging and genuine document formats and file formats used in e-book; new file sharing technologies; authoring and reading e-book; policies and legislation; fighting with piracy and concept of fair use; e-book business models; growth and impact of the e-book market in both developed and developing countries and the latest e-book trends and future technologies. In addition to this changed context, librarians are facing several other challenges in providing information, which are discussed in this paper. Abstract: The most innovative online journals are maturing rapidly and distinctive new Knowledge Portals are emerging day by day. Foremost among the features of the portals is the hypertext link, popularized by the World Wide Web and which will form the basis of a new, highly integrated scholarly literature. Journal integration in this instance seeks to recognize, extend and exploit relationships at the level of journal content–the papers–while maintaining some of the familiar contexts. Links are a powerful tool for journal integration, most immediately in the form of citation linking. The paper defines what knowledge portals are and describes a new system, a link service, which is being developed to support novel and flexible linking mechanisms on the Web. The main aims and objectives of the study and the definitions of citation linking of journal articles and the importance of the citation linking are also discussed in this article with reference to the e-journal Knowledge portal of ACM. The methodology used in the JACM to link the citations is explained with figures. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1014 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: There is lot of research carried out about the models of classification suitable for libraries in digital environment. UDC, CC, DDC, LCC are used in libraries all over the world. People are using existing Classification models and automating them for use in the digital environment. Though this is a right step, one has to look at the operational requirements of the digital environment. Keeping this fact in view, this paper analyses the requirements of the digital environment and points out the adaptations required for the traditional schemes to suit the digital environment . Abstract: The 90’s saw a substantial increase in the power and reach of the Internet. The beginning of this century has witnessed a sudden downfall in its potency as a commercial force. The problem lies not only in business and financing models but also website content. Tools such as computers, digital video cameras, cameras in mobile phones etc make it easy to create digital content and, at the same time, Internet platforms support sharing and publishing people’s own creations. Collaborative content, created with web2.0 technologies, is part of the social computing phenomenon. The key feature of collaborative content is that it is created, reviewed, refined, enhanced and shared by interactions and contributions of a number of people. This paper focuses on collaborative Web content development in two broad areas. The features are illustrated by a few relevant case studies. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1018 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Digital resource has emerged as complementary and substitute to printresource. But electronic has become vital source of information. MICA KEIChas experience in handling various electronic resources; it requiresinitiatives and interest to know new things. Subscription management requires continuous tracking to know that along with print subscription library will get free access to electronic journals, with little premium or to pay full subscription. This helps for retrospective searches. Association membership gives the benefits of free subscription and access to electronic resources. Commercial database has got high subscription cost but access to resources from retrospective dates. Electronic resources are cheaper because of aggregator but challenges lies with the librarian for an optimum use of resources subscribed by library. The use study, users study, actual demand and potential demand will help the librarian to take the right decision. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1357 Files in this item: 1
