Abstract: Rapid advances in information processing, storage and communication technologies have revolutionized a role of worldwide libraries in disseminating information services to their users. Libraries are consolidating their positions, building digital collections, redesigning their services and information products to add value to their services in order to satisfy changing information needs of users. In this research paper the author covers the profile of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam, objectives of the study, use of electronic resources by the faculty, research scholars and students, suggestions and findings. Further, studies and research are suggested in application and implications of e-classrooms, e-teaching and e-learning should be the source of knowledge in future. Abstract: Internet has grown up as the most popular and effective information tool of the present age. It's growth, popularity and effectiveness are shaping the world as a global village. Every domain of the human intellect has taken boost with this outstanding development of the 20 th Century. Keeping these facts in mind, the Shantarakshita library of Tibetan Institute got the Internet connectivity in the year 1998. Since then, users of the library are immensely using it. To streamline the use of this facility and to train users in its proper use, various initiatives have been taken by the library. Present study is an endeavour in this direction. Abstract: The progress in information Technology and the emergence of Internet and its WWW has given a new face-lift to the information systems. The library collections with the tradition of its holdings are now added with the electronic information resources in various formats. The popularity and ease in use of WWW has lured most of the reputed publishers to host their products on web. Technology advances over the past two decades have made data retrieval faster and easier, giving rise to a substantial industry providing access to professional, business and scientific information. Some progress has been made towards increasing the relevancy of the data with the induction of various search engines and subject directories. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/27 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: In view of the transition stage from print media to electronic media, information seeking pattern of users particularly research scholars are likely to change. The present study was undertaken with an objective to ascertain as to what extent electronic as well as other traditional resources are being used in university environment in India as well as in neighboring counties having similar conditions like India, The analysis was focused to determine the use of the basic information sources in research particularly electronic resources. Results indicate that traditional sources are still dominantly used with little use of electronic media except the use of some commercial subject databases on CD-ROM. Internet use is much below the expectation. Even free e-journals are not being referred. Users, no doubt, have the aptitude to use electronic resources including Internet but lack adequate facilities as well as initiation from professionals. Suggest that enhancing the usability of available resources by way of adapting user to the systems and services seems to be more viable. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/218 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: In this short article we examine the use of electronic journals by research scholar and consider whether library services need any innovation. Research scholars are the intellectual asset of the University and their production of new knowledge through the practices of research and scholarship lies at the heart of the University’s mission. Yet, without effective and ongoing dissemination of knowledge, the efforts of researchers and scholars are wasted.Disseminationis thus a core responsibility of the University. Abstract: The recent developments in Information Technology changed the world scenario. Libraries and Information Centres have embraced the new information technology more profoundly than many other fields and most of them are currently using electronic products and services. IT offers tremendous opportunities to provide solutions to some of the major challenges now libraries are facing. Electronic Publishing or e-publishing is an important media of the new Information Technology. Nowadays the majority of publishers are interested in publishing their documents in electronic format. Electronic journals are attracting readers’ attention in todays networked environment. In this environment these e-journals open up many exciting opportunities and have already brought a revolutionary transition in library philosophy. These are one of the main vehicles used by researchers for scholarly communication. UGC InfoNet, e-journals consortium programme is an innovative scheme implemented in India in the year 2004 to access scholarly journals in general university environment. A survey has been conducted among the librarians of universities of Karnataka and opinions were sought regarding the impact of using e-journals offered through the UGC-InfoNet e-journals consortium project. The paper highlights the results of the survey. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1303 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This paper presents a user-centred design methodology for ensuring the usability of IR interfaces. The methodology is consisted of sequentially performing: a competitive analysis, user task analysis, heuristic evaluation, formative evaluation, and finally a summative comparative evaluation. We first described each of tWe found that ourThe user-centred methodology could have a major impact on improving the usability of IR user interfaces. This proves the efficacy of our user-centred methodology. We hope this methodology wouldThis methodology provides a starting point for techniques that let IR researchers and practitioners to design better user interfaces that is are both easy to learn to use and remember. Abstract: The primary goal of a library is to provide access to information resources to the users. However, as libraries move from paper to electronic medium, providing access to resources over a network safety has become very complicated. Security of assets or resources in a library network should be achieved without any compromise. But, if users are not protected from easy and unauthorized access to the library network the stored information may be at risk. So, the network must be protected by creating some security policies. Libraries will be able to protect their resources by making sure that users will use only those resources for which they have been granted access. The paper describes how to assist the library network professionals in the process of users’ security management. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/215 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: An attempt has been made to study the IT awareness of the user community in the State of Manipur. The paper highlights the information needs and dependence of information on Community Information Centres (CIC) are analysed. The conclusion focuses on the considerable work and effort needed for imparting computer literacy, information literacy for preparing and powering the masses for the construction of knowledge based society. Further, according to the requirements of the user community, content preparation is necessary and it has been suggested that, the information available on internet may update on a frequent basis usually in local language for the benefit of local communities. Abstract: Politicians constitute a particular group of users whose information need and information seeking behaviour is quite specific. In our paper an attempt is being made to ascertain the information needs of politicians who belong to different parties in Manipur. The channels and sources of information they use and their involvement in information activities are some of the parameters on which emphasis has been given. The barriers encountered by the politicians have also been chalked out to draw solutions. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/442 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The advent of Social Networking sites and its resources have revolutionized the communication and social relation world. A significant transition can be seen in the academic communities approach and way they seek information and establish the social relation activities. The purpose of the study was to investigate the user perception and use of Social Networking sites by the Sikkim University students. It has been observed in the study that majority parts of the students expressed the use of their internet for Social Networking sites and its resources and were enthusiastic in improving their skills in the use of Social Networking sites. Facebook was the most popular site compared to other Social Networking sites. Though the students indicated that lack of security and privacy were the main concerns of Social Networking sites, majority of them used real names and photos in their profiles.
