Abstract: Resource mobilization or generation is one of the global challenges in all sectors such as business, agriculture, banking, industry etc. In recent years, higher education has undergone important changes including the shift from teacher centered to a student centered learning, and the replacement of the traditional practice of learning over a specified period of time by the concept of lifelong learning. Higher education also is facing the new challenges of Information resource mobilization and management. The advancement of Information and communication technology (ICT) and multimedia applications has resulted in a lot of change in education like classroom teaching, e-learning, scholarly communication, online resources etc. In the current scenario of higher education, institutional repositories play a major role in collective resource mobilization and resource sharing across the nation and over the globe. This paper explains how scientific community and academia in Cochin University of Science & Technology contribute for resource mobilization through the institutional repository and how it is beneficial to the institution as well as the academic community. Abstract: Web 2.0 technologies provide opportunities in various ways to add value to e-services to the world. This term Web 2.0 is widely used to cover a lot of different things especially online on the Internet. These push technologies open new challenges for Library applications too. These powerful e-services reflecting the 2.0 movement integrate dissimilar data to make it more focused for user needs, integrate data within specific user tasks, facilitate collaboration and team use of information, and allow creation of new information and value by users online. However, RSS is one of the easiest and most seamless ways to connect and be informed. RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) is basically a format to deliver updated Web content. This paper describes the implementation of RSS 2.0 feed into an online information Gateway in a local Intranet environment thoroughly. Implementation of RSS feed provides news and information merely not static but also with a click. Abstract: This article attempts to trace the evolution of scholarly communication from the days of publication of Journal-des-scavans to the era of web 2.0. Explains the Open Access (OA) movement in brief. The views of Harnad (7) on OA are highlighted. The emergence of Open Access 2.0 is put in context. The authors also explain science 2.0 as the emerging practice in scientific knowledge sharing and scholarly communication. The positives and drawbacks of science 2.0 are discussed. Some of the science 2.0 concepts like OpenWetware, PLoS and other science 2.0 systems used in scientific research for communication as put forth by Hooker and Surridge are cited to indicate that science 2.0 is the future for scholarly communication. Abstract: Library 2.0 is a loosely defined model for a modernized form of library service that reflects a transitionwithin the library world in the way that services are delivered to users. The focus is on user-centered change and participation in the creation of content and community. The concept of Library 2.0 borrows from that of Business 2.0 and Web 2.0 and follows some of the same underlying philosophies. This includes online services such as the use of OPAC systems and an increased flow of information from the user back to the libraryWith Library 2.0, library services are constantly updated and reevaluated to best serve library users. Library 2.0 also attempts to harness the library user in the design and implementation of library services by encouraging feedback and participation. Proponents of this concept expect that ultimately the Library 2.0 model for service will replace traditional, one-directional service offerings that have characterized libraries for centuries.Present paper highlights the chaning role of library 2.0 in present digital environment. Abstract: The advent of Social Networking sites and its resources have revolutionized the communication and social relation world. A significant transition can be seen in the academic communities approach and way they seek information and establish the social relation activities. The purpose of the study was to investigate the user perception and use of Social Networking sites by the Sikkim University students. It has been observed in the study that majority parts of the students expressed the use of their internet for Social Networking sites and its resources and were enthusiastic in improving their skills in the use of Social Networking sites. Facebook was the most popular site compared to other Social Networking sites. Though the students indicated that lack of security and privacy were the main concerns of Social Networking sites, majority of them used real names and photos in their profiles. Abstract: Since the early days of catalogues, the structure and interface of library tools used for accessing the resources are changing rapidly and dramatically to fulfil the changing user needs. In recent years, the behaviour of library users has been undergoing drastic changes due to increasingly use of web search engines and ICT based services. Abstract: This paper presents the idea of Web 2.0, represents a significant paradigm shift in the way we view library services. It’s about a seamless user experience, where usability, interoperability, and flexibility of library systems are key features to future prospects. The library can build community (both online and physical), via using web 2.0 technologies (instant messaging, screen casting, blogs, wikis, etc.). It allows user participation through writing reviews and tagging in the catalog and making their opinion heard through blogs and wikis. It makes the library more transparent through its Web presence and its physical design. We need to make the library human, ubiquitous, and user-centered. This involves a change in our systems, our Web presence, and our very attitudes. Abstract: LIS schools today face a greater challenge in updating their curriculum to accommodate the new technological innovations, necessitated by the market demands. Web 2.0 applications have not only transformed the nature of scholarly communication but is constantly reshaping the ways in which users search, find, access and utilize the information with the help of tools facilitated by open source software and user friendly web programming languages including AJAX. This preliminary survey shows how well the latest technologies are getting embedded into daily library services for the benefit of users and the feasibility of their coverage in LIS curriculum, with reference to Mumbai libraries. Practicing librarians are struggling everyday to keep themselves up-to-date with new Web 2.0 resources and utilities, to implement the same in their personal and professional work domains and hence expect the fresh graduates to be skilled with requisite technical competency to meet the challenges of the growing market demands.
