Abstract: Organizations across the world are ensuring their visibility online. They are making their intellectual contents available for all in the form of repositories. Creation of disciplinary repository is an essential effort in this direction. The study takes the glimpses from open-DOAR by making it main source from data collection to highlight the present scenario of these repositories. There are 145 English language Disciplinary repository developed so for in the orld .Continent wise analysis shows up that 53% of these are hosted by North America and least hosted by Africa (1%). Country wise analysis highlights that US constituted 48% with 18% contribution from UK side. India has also experimented in the field with 3% repositories. Highest present of repositories 20% is devoted to the field of History and Archeology followed by Geography and regional studies (16%), Computes and IT (12%) Law and Political Science and ultidisciplinary (11%) each. Abstract: The features of e-book like model, market collections, developing operating guidelines and enhancing potential strategies, hardware, softwares, and standards need strong strategies, approaches and procedures to support and exchange of scholarly information for research potentiality. The development of e-books and e-publishing has challenged the traditional balance among publishers, authors, book sellers, libraries and information centers in a number of fundamental ways. The spiraling cost of publications including the non-availability of latest printed book, exploration of web technology, networks necessitated the cause of generating the ideas of e-books and more prominently when the publishers and authors found the web as the viable platform for business point of view including academic exploration to promulgate the e-books services through web. This paper throws light on the how the impact of e-books has geared to activate the research potentiality among researchers in the wake of advanced information and communication technology. Abstract: The Open Access movement comprises many complementary initiatives, including digital scholarly journals, discipline-specific e-print servers, institutional repositories, and author self-archiving. Researchers are extensively using these repositories to publish their research outputs. Bibliographic control of scholarly literature of commercial publications is mostly available in the form of Abstracting, Indexing and Citation sources. But in the similar way for the open access publications it not the same case. Bibliographic control of open access e-resources is a major issue. The rapid growth of scholarly information resources available in electronic form and their organisation by digital libraries is proving fertile ground for the development of sophisticated new services, of which citation linking will be one indispensable example. Many new projects, partnerships and commercial agreements have been announced to build citation linking applications. Abstract: The world is witnessing a sea change in the area of scholarly communication. Perhaps the control over scholarly communication has started a gradual shifting from commercial publishers to academic organizations and many author initiatives in the area of Open Access (OA). Open Access is perhaps opening up the major barriers that higher education institutes and libraries face specially when it comes to escalating journal prices and shrinking budgets. Institutional Repositories (IRs) are one of the two most powerful tool to empower and strengthen open access movement. Universities and other academic institutions of the developed countries are already reaping the rich benefits of institutional repositories. The technology is free, the software is available free of cost and the universities are also having the necessary infrastructure for implementing IRs at their premises. The only required link which is missing is the awareness and willingness. To make IRs a success awareness is also needed regarding advantages of self-archiving and publishers’ policies regarding self-archiving. It’s high time that Indian universities should take a decision and a strong commitment to develop IRs and convince the faculty members and research scholars to deposit papers in the digital archive. Abstract: The article outlines the overview of Institutional Repositories. A growing number of universities across the globe are running institutional repositories projects using open source software, while many others are in the planning stages. We move towards global sharing of information using these software and librarian have to play pivotal role in archiving the digital content, produced by the faculty members. Within next few years, I expect that universities in India also create repositories and effectively use open source software. This article describes about the current development of Open Access Initiative, Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) an important infrastructure component for Institutional repositories. A convergence of technology developments and other initiatives has made IRs possible. Technology costs, especially storage costs, have dropped significantly. There is now a variety of open source and commercial software platforms available for an institution wishing to develop an IR.. Abstract: The article presents a brief overview of Open Acess, IRs and Librarians role. Universities and other institutions can have complex motives for establishing IRs; providing free access to all IR materials is often one of them. Open access initiatives may focus on technical support costs of IRs, while librarians may also be concerned with various other problems such as staff and user training and support, IR advocacy and promotion, metadata creation and maintenance, and long-term digital preservation etc. Consequently, we can see IRs as cheap to support and quick to implement, while as librarians we can take a more cautious approach that takes in to consideration other constraints and the library maxim that it is easier to establish a new service than to stop offering one. Abstract: India, the second most populous country, and the most populous democracy in the world. Economic reforms have transformed it into the second fastest growing large economy. It has one of the largest English speaking populations in the world. India offers one of the largest higher education systems in the world. It has around 300 universities with 15000 Colleges of Engineering, Medical, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, Science and Management Education out of which nearly 10000 Ph.Ds are being awarded every year. Scholarly journals are considered to be the main carrier of quality scholarly knowledge. In majority of the cases public money is utilized in research projects. Scientists and scholars working on these projects produce articles containing research results. These are sent to scholarly journals for publication. These articles carrying nascent information are expected to generate new cycles of knowledge. However the traditional process of publishing system of print-only journals prevent easy and quick access to these articles. Providing open access to the research work will help the researchers, especially in the developing world, to have access to the research literature from across the world. The paper outlines the features of one of most popular open source software Open Journal Systems (OJS) for Open access journal publishing. More and more number of open access journals in India will bring a significant increase in the productivity and visibility of Indian scientific research. Abstract: The present paper describes about the universal access to knowledge and information in the network and digital environment. It highlights the Open Access Declaration, Open Access Movement in India and aboard, Open Source Software for establishing Institutional Repositories and Digital Libraries for open access. Abstract: This paper introduces the concepts of open access publishing and institutional repositories. Examples of such repositories are given. An overview is provided of projects being funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee within the UK in higher education institutions and information on how some of the outcomes of this work can be useful to those in other countries is provided. The progress of the Wales Repository Network in developing an integrated network of institutional repositories in Wales is described. Abstract: The importance of doctoral dissertations, the extend of public fund utilized for their production, need for their open access, concepts of Open Access and the arguments for and against it are discussed in detail. A brief historical outline of the attempts in India for digitizing and providing Open Acess to Doctoral Dissertations is provided. The development of the Open Access Digital Archives of Mahatma Gandhi University is examined as an opportunity for other implementers and developers to gain both technical and non-technical insight. Recommendations for establishing a national agency for ensuring OA to doctoral dissertations produced in Indian universities is provided. Discussion on Open Access Initiative and the creation of OA Archives of Dissertations at MGU can reveal to other intuitions in India that it is not a costly or difficult task as generally considered. Abstract: The pivotal role of education as an instrument of social change - by altering the human perspective and transforming the traditional mindset of society is well recognized. The universalisation of education has become the top priority, especially for the developing countries.
