Abstract: Library computer network security faces many challenges. Library network security must be achieved without any compromise. This paper presents few important guidelines that may help tremendously in improving the secure working of the library computer network. Attempts are being made worldwide with regard to the library network security so as to achieve a very good library network setup. A good library network system should be able to meet three major objectives, namely, data availability, confidentiality, and data integrity. This paper discusses the objectives, plans and tips for library computer network security. Description: This is only an Abstract URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/247 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This paper discusses the Library as a nervous centre of the University providing right information – global or local - at the right time to the entire academic community. The fiber optic and Cat 6 cable forms a Network connecting various data servers of the library locally and globally. This very feature invites to implement security measures to be employed logically using Active Directory Server Settings and Web OPAC server settings to protect the data to be lost accidentally or purposefully. Abstract: The contribution of networking technologies for a library is significant. The library network and its security are major issues for the library professionals. Libraries and information centers are changing rapidly towards digitization. Now a day’s stand-alone computer is of no use. It must be on network to utilize the resources. Computer networking involves connecting desktop computers, laptops, hubs, switches and other connectivity devices. Library professional requires inside planning in establishing library network in respect of data transmission speed and library applications. This paper presents model for library networks from low bandwidth application to the multimedia rich high bandwidth intensive library applications. The paper is also concentrating on library network security. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/428 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: 21 st century is marked by spectacular and unprecedented developments in the field of telecommunication. The popularity of this field is gaining momentum, as it is faster, cost-effective and more efficient in resource sharing than any other communication media. Networks are the basis of telecommunication technology. The paper flashes on various aspects of network security and requirement of having sound security policy. The topic of network security policy is dealt with in detail, which is followed by the findings of the survey carried out by the authors. Some suggestions for developing security policy are given with the objective of helping the Library and Information Science professionals. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/211 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Information Technology (IT) is the buzzword now-a days. It has brought out fundamental changes in functioning of libraries and the services they provide to the users. Today, in the age of Information Technology, we have the concept of ‘Using Information from Digital and Network Libraries’. For using information from digital libraries, we need speed creativity, ability to retain people and security. All these requirements can be met by Internet and an Intranet. It means that, today, the role and importance of these two buzzwords not only in libraries/organizations but for each human being is very high. Internet should reach to every man, woman and child. In my opinion, therefore, a new slogan should be coined as “Roti, Kapda, Makan aur Internet !”. This paper describes briefly Internet, Intranet, their differences, and their role and applications in an educational organization and particularly in digital libraries and network security. Abstract: Bluetooth and WiFi wireless technology came into focus in few years would be an understatement. It was a time of tremendous progress – a time of refining, improving and making strides towards perfecting Bluetooth and WiFi wireless technology. In this paper we will check that how Bluetooth and WiFi technology came into focus for users worldwide. With over four million products shipping every week, member companies saw a significant increase in both brand recognition and product demand. Even more importantly, increased consumer understanding of Bluetooth capabilities has resulted in a growing demand for applications that best fit lifestyles and needs. Members focused strongly on developing and marketing their Bluetooth enabled products. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1055 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Libraries are using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for their operations and services by making huge investments and spending vast amounts of staff time for the selection, acquisition, retrieval, and dissemination of digital information. But the proliferation of computers, widespread acceptance of computer networks, explosive growth of Internet, increased reliance on electronic databases and the move from dedicated mainframe environments to client-server environments make libraries vulnerable to security threats. The moment user connects the computer to a Network or Internet, is the moment that the security of data has been compromised. Even the most secure systems, shepherded by the most intelligent and able system administrators, and employing the most up-to-date, tested software available are at risk every day. It is very essential to take all measures to protect the ICT infrastructure from security threats. However, libraries are lagging behind in realizing the need to protect their ICT resources and services from misuse, damage, theft, sabotage, mistake, etc. This paper deals with the issues related to the security of libraries in the present digital networked environment and makes recommendations for protecting ICT resources and services. The paper discusses security risks, strategies for security, security policy, personnel security, physical security, software security, network security, Internet security, access control, protection against computer viruses, protection of public terminals and backup information. This paper also discusses the need for professional assignments for library security and the importance of security training for library professionals. Abstract: The primary goal of a library is to provide access to information resources to the users. However, as libraries move from paper to electronic medium, providing access to resources over a network safety has become very complicated. Security of assets or resources in a library network should be achieved without any compromise. But, if users are not protected from easy and unauthorized access to the library network the stored information may be at risk. So, the network must be protected by creating some security policies. Libraries will be able to protect their resources by making sure that users will use only those resources for which they have been granted access. The paper describes how to assist the library network professionals in the process of users’ security management. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/215 Files in this item: 1
