Abstract:
The Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC) is one of the modern libraries in the
Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), providing computerized services to
the users since 1991. The library presently uses a commercially available software -
‘AutoLib’- for its in -house operations and information storage and retrieval services. The
software has been customized to provide various specialized web based services on the
campus intranet. This paper briefly covers the hardware requirements and describes the
various customized services such as Research Alert, Web OPAC, Project Profile Service,
Online Research Diary, Digital Library Module (for cataloguing digital resources),
Contents Page Services, Web based circulation reports, etc.

Abstract:
The progress in information Technology and the emergence of Internet and its
WWW has given a new face-lift to the information systems. The library collections
with the tradition of its holdings are now added with the electronic information
resources in various formats. The popularity and ease in use of WWW has lured
most of the reputed publishers to host their products on web. Technology advances
over the past two decades have made data retrieval faster and easier, giving rise
to a substantial industry providing access to professional, business and scientific
information. Some progress has been made towards increasing the relevancy of
the data with the induction of various search engines and subject directories.

Abstract:
This paper is the outcome of a survey conducted to assess the utilization of internet-based library
services available to the faculty members of Z.H. College of Engineering & Technology at the
Aligarh Muslim University. Data for the study was colleted by administering an open-ended questionnaire
asking for recording of information on the various aspects of the internet-based services, frequency of visit to the library, purpose of visiting the library, Internet usage, purpose of using the internet services, use of popular Search engines, awareness about Internet services, number of
E-journal consulted and the behaviors of staff members while using the library facilities. The study reveals besides other points that most of the faculty members utilize the services offered by
the college library and emphasizes that the services may be improved further after proper training for familiarity with the latest Information and Communication Technologies and improvement of
the existing IT infrastructure.
