Abstract: Managing content in a reusable and effective manner is becoming increasingly important in knowledge centric organizations as the amount of content generated, both text based and rich media, is growing exponentially. Creating content is expensive and unless it is staged, deployed and reused effectively, these costs cannot be justified. An important aspect of content management technologies is that they are far from being mature and they are getting better with time and this will continue to stay this way for some more time. In this paper we discuss important features of next generation content management systems and key technology enablers that make it possible to achieve next generation functionality. We describe two important technology enablers that are implemented with state of the art research besides identifying evolving and futuristic research areas that will help push the content and information systems to the next level. We describe a technology framework for managing a unified taxonomy and ontology network and a common messaging platform. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1513 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Library consortia in today’s digital age are quite different from that of library networks in yester years. The main reason is that the resources that are shared in today’s consortia environment are predominantly in electronic form such as electronic journals and databases. Hence the technology and associated tools to support sharing the electronic resources are also important components for the success of any library consortia. Technology to store, host, retrieve and deliver information resources keep changing. This paper looks at the technology requirements for modern library consortia and issues related to that both at the information providers and member libraries end. An ideal library consortia that is technology enabled is also presented. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/204 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Associationship is an important component of data mining. In real world, the knowledge used for mining rule is almost time varying. The items have the dynamic characteristic in terms of transaction, which have seasonal selling rate and it holds time-based associationship with another item. In database, some items which are infrequent in whole dataset may be frequent in a particular time period. If these items are ignored then associationship result will no longer be accurate. To restrict the time based associationship, calendar based pattern can be used [5]. Calendar units such as months and days, clock units, such as hours and seconds & specialized units , such as business days and academic years, play a major role in a wide range of information system applications.[11] Our focus is to find effective time sensitive algorithm for mining associationship by extending frequent pattern tree approach [3]. This algorithm reduces the time complexity of existing technique[5]. It also uses the advantages of divide & conquer method to decompose the mining task into a smaller tasks for database. Abstract: Electronic resources are becoming increasingly important to libraries of all types and sizes. The paper discusses present situation of the e-resource availability at the degree college libraries of Purulia District, West Bengal. This paper addresses the acquisition of electronic information resources and its collection development policy to guide the librarians at College Libraries in the selection of electronic reference-resources. Instead of focusing on how well a given publication/e-resource fits into or supports the collection, the policy gives general guidance on the selection of electronic resources. The general collection development guidelines for electronic information resources include relevance and potential use of the information, redundancy of the information contained in the product, demand for the information, ease of use of the product, availability of the information to multiple users, stability of the coverage of the resource, longevity of the information, cost of the product, predictability of pricing, equipment needed to provide access to the information, technical support, and availability of the physical space needed to house and store the information or equipment. This paper is based on exhaustive survey of college libraries in Purulia District, West Bengal. It was found that a majority of college libraries do not subscribe to e-resources. A three step strategy is put forward to introduce e-resources at all college libraries in Purulia District, West Bengal. The paper also lists a few openly available e-resources and benefits of joining library consortia. In the end, the paper lists best possible draft policy for e-resource acquisition. A few suggestions are also put forward for its implementation in the near future. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/941 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The paper highlights about the importance of total quality management in libraries. It is an view that the condition which challenged in libraries of Total Quality Management are very much prevalent here. It is not, however, clear if library managers are effecting the necessary changes to satisfy their clients. In the face of these challenges it is now time for libraries to exhibit that they are valuable to the continued survival and sustenance of their organizations. This can be done best by activity management. Therefore, it is a “system of continuous improvement employing participative management centered on the needs of customers”. Key components of TQM are employee involvement and training, problem solving teams, statistical methods, long term goals and thinking and recognition that the system, not people produces inefficiencies. It is a systematic process, which focuses on understanding customer needs and improving customer services. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1298 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: It is often said that “People must know the past to understand the present and face the future”. This statement more particularly suits to the church archival materials which depict and reflect the church heritage. In this paper an attempt has been made to present an overview of church archival materials in India in general and the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore in particular. It is based on a questionnaire survey. The survey covered various church archives in India. It has been found that in almost all church archives in India the archival materials are not effectively stored and preserved. Therefore, keeping in view, the present state of affairs in the care and maintenance of church archival materials and with the available technology, it is proposed to go in for ‘digitization’ as a means of preservation of church archival materials. In this context, the concept of digitization and its advantages, the hardware and software required for digitization, and the processes have been explained. Further, the type of archival materials to be digitized has been specified. The paper, concluding that in view of the effectiveness of digitization as a means of preservation, urges that in this new millennium the church archives in India should go in for digitization. Abstract: Library 2.0 is a loosely defined model for a modernized form of library service that reflects a transitionwithin the library world in the way that services are delivered to users. The focus is on user-centered change and participation in the creation of content and community. The concept of Library 2.0 borrows from that of Business 2.0 and Web 2.0 and follows some of the same underlying philosophies. This includes online services such as the use of OPAC systems and an increased flow of information from the user back to the libraryWith Library 2.0, library services are constantly updated and reevaluated to best serve library users. Library 2.0 also attempts to harness the library user in the design and implementation of library services by encouraging feedback and participation. Proponents of this concept expect that ultimately the Library 2.0 model for service will replace traditional, one-directional service offerings that have characterized libraries for centuries.Present paper highlights the chaning role of library 2.0 in present digital environment.
