Abstract: The UniFrame approach to component-based software development assumes that concrete components are developed from a meta-model, called the Unified Meta- component Model, according to standardized business domain models. Implicit in this development is that there is a Platform Independent Model (PIM) which is transformed into a Platform Specific Model (PSM) under the principles of Model-Driven Architecture. This paper advocates natural language as the starting point for developing the business domain models and the meta-model and shows how this natural language may be mapped through the PIM to PSM using a formal system of rules expressed in Two-Level Grammar. This allows software requirements to be progressed from business logic to implementation of components and provides sufficient automation that components may be modified at the model level, or even the natural language requirements level, as opposed to the code level. Abstract: We are living in a society dominated by information technology and in an era of information where huge amount of Information can be speedily processed and saved on easily accessible media. Information plays a really important part in decision making in an organization. For an organization a wrong decision can lead to drastic result. This is on reason why information is steadily acquiring a more central role in business. In the world of today information is becoming increasing important. Generally speaking the standard of information security has not kept pace with this development. For example, information that before was saved on a large amount of paper and physically difficult to steal can today be saved on a disk that can easily remove. In this article author has discussed, what information security is. Why it is needed in an organization of 21 century. The CIA Relationship of information security is discussed with diagram. The information security chain has twelve modules and eighty sub modules. The overview of information security cannot be complete in such small paper; therefore author delimits herself to the most prominent module computer security. In the last future and conclusion of information security are highlighted. Information Security of IIT Kanpur system is also consulted in some of the modules. The paper is of particular value for newcomers in this area. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1011 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Digital conversion of Library materials has advanced rapidly in past few years. Digitization is one of the hot topics in librarianship today. To build a “Digital Library” requires that the content of a collection be available electronically. The rhetoric of the information highway has provided the impetus to convert many existing paper-based (or sound and video) collections into new digital media. Digitization of all categories of materials is now possible with the advances in digital technology. The assumption is that digital collections will be more accessible to a broader range of users, presumable through networking technologies, and that there are new efficiencies to be gained in resource-sharing and for preservation. The topic discuss the concept of Digital library, Component, Technology, Functions and Supporting Format of Digital Library. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1395 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Now a days network based information services have become more useful, affordable, available and usable. In network based information system, users can work simultaneously with multiple distributed information sources that differ in content, form and source types. Libraries serve at least three roles in learning. They serve practical role in sharing expensive resources – both physical and human resources. Libraries serve a cultural role in preserving and organizing artifacts and ideas. Third, libraries serve as a centers of interdisciplinary places shared by learners from all disciplines. If the library is networked, it extends such interdisciplinary approach by making diverse information resources available beyond the physical space shared by a group of learners apart from providing internal resources to the local users as well as remote users. One clear differentiation between traditional libraries and electronic libraries is that electronic libraries offer to deposit as well as use information. Electronic libraries allow storage of information in electronic form, communication from any place to obtain material, copying or taking print out from any place. So, this paper discusses about the network, Internet, Internet resources and services to our user community and remote users also. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/9 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The paper is an attempt to understand the basics of the information society and their application to enhance the library profession. For convenience, the paper has been divided into two parts; the part one discusses the basic features of the networked society. This society has influenced our life in many ways. Starting from personal life to business establishment and the government organizations, in the recent years, Information communication technology (ICTs) is of great help. The part two, however, discusses their application to upgrade the library profession, which could possibly change our orientation towards the profession and also to a large extent help the users. The application of ICTs in the libraries, in my opinion, will not only help in shedding the traditional mind-set, but also help to reduce the gap between nations. Use of Internet, online sources, and several such trends would help to overcome the digital divide and bring the knowledge to our doors. The part two discusses all these concepts and their possible application in our libraries and knowledge centres. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1334 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: In the present knowledge or information society, whatever we may call it, is dominated by the largest global network offered by Internet technology. Networking is the pre-requisite of the present society to be member of it. Therefore, to become the member of the library, network has become essential without any scope for any option or alternatives. Inadequacy of resources of even biggest library of the world is the main feature of any library or resource center. Therefore, augmentation of resources at the minimum cost is the aim not only by adding own resources but use resources of other libraries. The present professional challenge is that resources may not be available in own collection, but are to be made accessible wherever these are available. As such dependence on external resources is increasing day by day. We have to borrow what we don’t have or develop a common repository by collective efforts, which requires not only willingness to begin the process but mission to achieve the objectives. Keeping in view the above points in mind this paper briefly discuss about the need of the Guwahati academic library network and objectives of networking among the academic libraries in the Guwahati city. Further it enumerates issues involved in establishing such network, point out the constraints and finally the suggestion for the success of such networks. Abstract: In order to bridge the digital divide between the sightless and sighted and to encourage literacy in them, we have designed an architecture for transcribing Braille from optically recognized Indian language. The system will help to convert masses of information in different Indian languages into a tactile reading form. The system mainly consists of OCR modules designed in an efficient manner to promote portability and scalability. In first section, we have introduced the importance and necessity of the work with successive sections clarifying briefly the properties of Braille and Indian scripts. We have also described the OCR work done with respect to Indian languages and the related work to our system. Finally, the System architecture is explained clearly followed by some conclusion and future work. The paper also identifies the needs to be fulfilled to percolate the benefit of the technology developed to the masses. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/494 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Now a day, developing a single OCR system for recognizing multi-lingual documents becomes essential to enhance the ability and performance of the existing document analysis system. Hence in this paper, we present a new technique based on contour detection and distance measure for recognizing multi-lingual characters comprising south Indian languages (Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, English Upper case, English Lower case, English Numerals and Persian Alphanumeric). Proposed method finds boundary for a character using contour detection and the result of contour detection is given to feature extraction scheme to obtain distinct and invariant features for identifying different characters of different languages. The method extracts invariant features by computing distance between the centroid and the pixels of contour of character image. We compare the experimental results of proposed method with result of existing methods to evaluate the performance of the method. Based on experimental results it is realized that the proposed method gives 100% accuracy with minimum expense and time. In addition, the method is invariant to Rotation, Scaling and Translation transformations (RST). URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/502 Files in this item: 1
