Abstract: Books form an important part of human culture and heritage. Abstract: The advancement in communication and networking technologies and the adaptation of Internet and Intranet Technologies in organizational networks has gi ven the Library and Information Centers an opportunity to improve the information services to the patrons in more effective way. This paper describes the culmination of Current Awareness Service (CAS) and Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) into delivery of user need based recent additions of book titles and other documents into patrons email accounts periodically. The system design and implementation aspects are explained covering SMTP and Java Servlet Programming. The application is being introduced and tested in Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research where the networked infrastructure and the active user base are available. Abstract: Sophisticated access mechanisms, spiraling serials costs, new technologies and growing researcher needs and expectations are all driving libraries to reassess basic assumptions about interlibrary loan and document delivery. This article deals with document delivery service, its needs, characteristics and types. It discusses electronic document, motives and components of electronic document delivery. Trends and implications for the future have been highlighted. The article points out that the full benefits of an electronic document delivery system can not be realised until discovery, ordering and delivery are integrated. The article ends with fundamental questions about structure and operation of delivery service in administrative,technical and legal areas. Abstract: IIT Bombay Central library has varied collection in physical as well electronic/digital form. The access and maintenance of physical collection has become a great challenge as far as economic and ethical problems are concerned. The digital collection can easily be preserve on system and accessible to users on web without being tampered, but the rare and classic collection in physical form need to be preserved for future generation by overcoming the unethical means of losses. The MODROB / MHRD sponsored project helped to initiate the issue of security by installing the electronic security system to secure the esteemed collection and augment circulation activity. Abstract: Providing access to information has always been a function of Libraries and Information Centres (L & ICs). Access to information is crucial for education, science and culture and for fostering democracy in the information society. The principle of ‘free and universal access to information as well as freedom in the creation and dissemination of knowledge’ is a fundamental goal of the L & ICs. Theses and Dissertations (TDs) among all the primary sources are probably least used because firstly, their existence is not known in many cases, and, secondly, they are not easily accessible due to their unpublished status. This paper focuses on access and technology issues concerning ETDs, nature and benefits, methods of developing digital archives, and discusses various file formats and file compression as well as post processing for making digitised files accessible to the end-users. Abstract: Theses and dissertations are important knowledge resource created by graduate students in universities or institutes of higher learning. Due to lack of bibliographic control, and restricted access, these grey literature collect dust on shelves of libraries. Hence these are lost to prospective researchers and students to further their studies etc. Although many national and international efforts are being made to collect, collate and distribute theses and dissertations in many forms, none is comprehensive. The present trend is to prepare the theses in electronic form to facilitate easy online access to metadata, abstract and table of content or full text , the theses become OAIPMH compliant and can be searched on internet from anywhere. Depending upon access restrictions the theses can be harvested and stored in any institutional repositories. Indian scenario of theses and dissertations as knowledge resources, and maiden efforts by Tocklai Library in creation of Institutional Repository [IR] of all theses and dissertations in tea science and technology including other aspects are discussed.
