Abstract: The goal of electronic content discovery with Metasearching is to investigate issues related to locating, retrieving, and promulgating information in large networked environments. The Internet and WWW provide a challenging environment for deployment of these services. The needs of information publishers - to maximize audience reach - and the user - to minimize information overload - require advanced technical solutions and investigative research. As the deep web of information grows at an exponential rate, efforts to make the technology more manageable and affordable are highly in demand. Applying advanced information retrieval techniques i.e. meta-search and open link resolver are some approach to such efforts. In this paper we present our attempt to apply open source initiatives for retrieval model based on NISO Standards, relevance mechanisms and a meta search technique as an integrated electronic resource discovery system for the Deep Web. This paper discusses challenges and issues involved in Meta-Searching, as well as practical issues such as retrieval effectiveness, usability and scalability. Abstract: The library service is more technology based as times goes. In today’s context mobile based service is very demanding for the libraries. The use of Tablet PC’s application can fulfill the changing demand of the patron of the libraries. This service is already adopted by the some libraries of Western World. The Akash Tablet computer helps the Indian libraries for serving the patron in modern way. The Akash is very cheap and marketed by the Govt. of India gives the ample opportunity to the college libraries to adopt modern service of library. This article highlights the various features and function of Akash Tablet and its scope in the libraries. The e-resource and institutional repository can be handled very easy and cost effective way through Akash tablet. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1680 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The web has seen the explosion of social networking tools, which are empowering ordinary people to connect, collaborate and contribute in a global collaboration. These social software applications are now the hottest properties of the Internet users. This article explains the how Web 2.0 tools could be applied in academic libraries to convert them as A-Lib 2.0 or Academic Library 2.0. The paper further includes a few cases from different libraries which have already adopted these new services. One recent survey found that 34.41% of total academic libraries in New York State are using Web 2.0 Services; the major ones include IM, Blogs, RSS, Book marking, Wiki, Social Networks, etc. Library 2.0 has changed the traditional way of thinking about the profession where library only engage in creating the content and services for user shifted to the side of user where librarian will enable user to create them for themselves URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1278 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This paper describes a method for synthesizing images that match the texture appearance of a given digitized sample. This synthesis is completely automatic and requires only the “target” texture as input. It allows generation of as much texture as desired so that any object can be covered. It can be used to produce solid textures for creating textured 3-d objects without the distortions inherent in texture mapping. It can also be used to synthesize texture mixtures, images that look a bit like each of several digitized samples. The approach is based on a model of human texture perception, and has potential to be a practically useful tool for graphics applications. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/497 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The paper describes the importance of journal as an important medium of communicating recent developments in scientific research and the dependence of academic community of any University for their research work. It also presents the latest trend of journal publishing in electronic medium. Since, Indira Gandhi Memorial Library is the first University Library to introduce one of the major online medium to their academic community by subscribing EBSCO Online Journals Database, an analytical study of the usage statistics was undertaken in terms of number of sessions ,searches, abstracts and full text articles in order to measure deficiencies in the system. The data indicates that the usage is found extensive during initial years than the subsequent years. Abstracts and full text articles are more extensively referred Linking activity is also found to be constantly increased.. It is observed that the user’s unawareness regarding these developments is primarily affecting the usage of this new medium, whereas audit, renewal procedures, networking problems, etc. are added to the decline of the usage of e-journals. The paper suggests that a lot of orientation and publicity is still required to the academic community to increase the level of usage of such databases. Abstract: Electronic sources play a vital and viable role to cater to the needs of research scholars in the process of advancement of society in present environment. The prime function of any library is to provide efficient services to its users. This paper describes an analytical study of electronic sources and services provided to users with special reference to research scholars of VNIT library, Nagpur. The objective of this article is to study the different factors such as information, sources, services, adequate collection, various channels of information and the constraints faced by the research scholars in using or searching information through electronic sources.. The author adopted questionnaire survey and statistical analysis of data by applying simple percentage and chi-square test. The finding of the study is that research scholars access information through various electronic sources and services to keep pace with the developments taking place in the scientific world. Abstract: Knowledge Discovery or Data Mining is the partially automated process of extracting patterns, usually from large data sets. Library and information services in schools, colleges, universities, corporations and communities obtain information about their users, circulation history, resources in the collection, and search patterns. Now a days many libraries have taken advantage of these data as a way to improve customer service, manage acquisition budgets, or influence strategic decision-making about uses of information in their organizations. The paper tries give an overview on data sources and possible applications of data mining techniques in the library. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/435 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Data mining is a form of artificial intelligence that uses automated processes to find information. Although its use in libraries is to be explored, data mining has been used successfully for several years in the scientific and business communities for tracking behavior of individuals and groups, processing medical information, and a number of other applications. This system has been designed for librarians to help them manage the library easily. Data Mining involves different kinds of technologies, solutions and techniques and because of its pattern-recognition features; it can be applied to a large database. Data mining software can relate one field to the other field in the database. It can be used to analyze the on-line users' behavior and to predict the future potential users. Here, we have applied data mining to library systems using artificial intelligence technology. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/226 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This paper is discussed about how to incorporate 15 Dublin Core Meta data element set in Greenstone digital library software (open source) for more robust flexible search in an Institutional Repository. Here, we have created a framework for integration GSDL Meta data with Dublin Core meta data using a Meta data creator tool software named DC-dot. This tool helps to convert Dublin Core Metadata to Greenstone XML documents and built into a collection. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1349 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This Paper is based on a survey of application of Information and Communication Technology in two major Academic Institution Libraries of Arunachal Pradesh i.e., Rajiv Gandhi Central University Library and NERIST (North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology) Library. Here the discussion is done on the status of library automation, different software packages used for automation, OPAC, use of e-resources and the extent of their use in library operations of these two libraries. This paper also throws light on the problems and difficulties being faced by the library authority in applying ICT in the libraries. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1226 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The paper highlights the problem of IT (Information Technology) in six (6) selected special libraries in Manipur. The main problems of application of IT in these special libraries were the lack of fund. The state Government is not in a position to provide adequate funds for automating these special libraries. The authors also discusses about the requisite of IT to improve the condition of the special libraries of Manipur state. It also mentioned the problems of IT application and also suggested some solutions to overcome the problems. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1351 Files in this item: 1
