Abstract: The main feature of web 2.0 is its flexible interaction with users. It has been introduced ample of services where user is the central part. Collaborative tagging is also a product of Web 2.0 which can play an important role in the knowledge organization. Collaborative tagging is a new way to assign key words to internet resources by its users. This paper will give an overview to collaborative tagging, some tagging tools and some examples related to library fiel URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1264 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Digital resource has emerged as complementary and substitute to printresource. But electronic has become vital source of information. MICA KEIChas experience in handling various electronic resources; it requiresinitiatives and interest to know new things. Subscription management requires continuous tracking to know that along with print subscription library will get free access to electronic journals, with little premium or to pay full subscription. This helps for retrospective searches. Association membership gives the benefits of free subscription and access to electronic resources. Commercial database has got high subscription cost but access to resources from retrospective dates. Electronic resources are cheaper because of aggregator but challenges lies with the librarian for an optimum use of resources subscribed by library. The use study, users study, actual demand and potential demand will help the librarian to take the right decision. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1357 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The paper highlights the information needs and users’ dependence for information on Community Information Centres (CIC) in Nagaland with emphasis on Medziphema block. It also focuses on the effort needed for imparting computer literacy, information literacy for preparing and powering the underprivileged rural masses through the use of ICTs in such community centres. An attempt is made to reduce the challenges faced by disadvantaged communities such as lack of suitable skill set, language barriers and low literacy in using ICTs and the Internet through a simple, consistent and easy-to-use interface that requires low level competence from users and through accessibility to the use of multiple media (textual, audio, visual). Abstract: Internet editions of various newspapers in English and other regional languages in India are being produced, on an increasing scale, in India during the last three/four years. The text of these editions is preserved at various newspaper offices. This has resulted in database creation activity in Indian languages. Internet editions of Marathi newspapers are also being produced recently . Studies have been conducted on four Marathi news papers and various aspects like periodicity, preservation periods, typography/fonts used, procedure for information searching, headings, colours used etc. have been studied. Abstract: The WWW is more and more used for application to application communication. The programmatic interfaces made available are referred to as web services. Most people today can hardly conceive of life without the internet. The web of documents has morphed into a web of data. The semantic wave embraces three stages of internet growth. The first stage, web 1.0, was about connecting information and getting on the net. Web 2.0 is about connecting people putting the “I” in user interface, and the “we” into a web of social participation. The next stage, web 3.0, is starting now. It is about representing meanings, connecting knowledge, and putting them to work in ways that make our experience of internet more relevant, useful, and enjoyabl URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1285 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The emergence of the Internet and the Web have led to changes in the process of scholarly publishing and communication. In particular, the way that scientists and scholars search for and find information in patterns of national and international collaboration has changed. The development of information and library sciences together with science studies will, among other things, be fashioned by the development of quantitative studies conducted in this field (The way from librametry to webometrics). The EU has recently financed a new project (WISER) to further investigate the potential of creating new indicators of the Web for use in science and technology policy making. The study of collaboration in e-science is one focus of this project, including questions that examine the extent to which collaboration structures visible in the Web follow similar rules to collaboration networks measured by traditional bibliometric data. There are three specific key objectives: •To develop methods or webometric indicators for measurement of Web visibility of collaboration networks •To collect general rules in bibliographic collaboration structures that are suitable for testing in Web networks •To compare bibliographic collaboration networks and networks visible in the Web There are few general rules in bibliographic co-authorship networks available from the literature. A new approach is proposed by the author: Distribution of co-author couples in journals: “Continuation” of Lotka´s law on the 3rd dimension. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/370 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This article brings out a definition and theory for “Library 2.0”. It suggests that recent thinking describing the changing Web as “Web 2.0” will have substantial implications for libraries, and recognizes that while these implications keep very close to the history and mission of libraries, they still demand a new paradigm for librarianship. The paper applies the theory and definition to the practice of librarianship in the library 2.0 environment) URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/982 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Internet has become a forum for human communication in a wide variety of disciplines. The 2D and 3D data occupies large chunks of storage space, when converted from their natural analog form to digitized form. Hence there is a need to compress the data for storage space, fast processing and transmission. The present paper gives a view on need for compression of 2D and 3D data, different compression techniques. It also emphasizes on user query process. Abstract: Information concepts and organizational environments such as, Placid-randomized, Placid-cluster, Disturbed-reactive and Turbulent environments, which affect the information dissemination, are crucial in the present high-tech world of digital age. The communication culture in the digital age seems to have a different connotation as compared to earlier times, when it was direct and face to face with a very little chance for miscommunication. Therefore, globalization of communication, which is heavily dependent on innovative information technology, should be implemented with an ethical framework involving quick and proper communication of facts to masses. This may be helpful in prevention of war and promotion of peace/ respect for culture, tradition and values/ promotion of human rights and dignity. Abstract: The library services have changed very fast in the last twenty years. Nowadays, electronic resources, networks and the World Wide Web represent a large portion of the library services. The librarians must manage staff, information in several supports, and technical activities to produce quality services. Quality services means resources and services, which satisfy users’ expectations and perceptions. It is very clear that librarians must use management tools to run the library services. These tools such as TQM, SERVQUAL, LibQUAL help them to assess services, to make decisions, to improve services and to achieve a better quality. The networked environment offers libraries’ challenges and opportunities in a number of areas including management, services, and collection development. The main objective of this paper is to describe and identify the issues meriting attention by the library professionals to gear up the library product and services so that user communities get satisfied coming to library. Abstract: Indian Libraries are facing the problems to meet the user(s) requirements. It may be due to exponential growth in literature, price escalation, budget restrictions etc. In turn the number of books/journals purchased by libraries have gone down. This demands the library professionals to think of alternative ways and mechanism to fulfill the users needs within the available budget. In recent past consortia receiving lot of attention from the information producing and managing community to face the unending fiscal constraints. Abstract: Due to increase in the cost of journals, dwindling library budgets and proliferation of electronic information resources, libraries have been involved in cooperation, coordination and collaboration in resource sharing. The emergence of information technology made library professionals to change their role as navigator of information and come closer willingly to share available information with other libraries. Libraries and Information Services (LIS) are being transformed by technology; consequently, LIS have to adopt to meet their user’s changing needs and growing expectations. Included among the resource sharing initiatives conceived by libraries in India is the creation of a computerized network or consortium of all LIS to achieve optimum use. This paper presents the consortia developments in the library and information centers in India. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1556 Files in this item: 1
