Abstract: The objective of this project is to setup a co-operative framework and develop a central index system for accessing the collections of all Affiliated College Libraries of Bangalore University. This is ought to be achieved by applying a new approach for search and retrieval via SRU/W combined with MARC and Dublin core meta-data paradigm; harvest meta-data using Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Meta-data Harvesting. The project includes a server, client and portal, functionality partly running on Server and client browser resulting in a low implementation barrier, maximum scalability, and browser independence, as well as giving users control over the search interface and what collections to search. Abstract: Web technology is used to provide access to information both within and beyond the institution. In the future there will be greater emphasis on the delivery of information to support learning wherever curriculum programs are being taught, and wherever students are learning at institute or at home. The role of the library resource centre as a service facility will grow. Institutions have a crucial responsibility towards students to develop their aptitude in using the information potential of these information technologies critically and wisely. The paper is aimed at presenting the use of web technology in education. The problem is with organizing educational resources whereby individual learners will be able to access material according to their own leaner profile and needs. The Data for this paper is based on conceptual study including personal observation and interaction with students, library research referring to the important journals, periodicals, publications and research volumes and making use of the web. The authors in this paper have highlighted the various types of web technology useful for learners and educators. In Recommendations and Conclusions, the authors throw light on the need for a resource database for learners. Further research will entail the feasibility of the implementation of a resource-base using a data warehouse and data mining as the driving forces with the Internet/Web technology as the delivery mode. Abstract: Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) is a set of product compatibility standards for wireless local area network based on the IEEE 802.11 specifications. Wi-Fi was intended to be used for mobile devices, Local Area Networks and internet access through Access Points. The importance of communication of information and the technologies required for are stated. The importance of Wi-Fi technology and its application in libraries are stated. If wi-fi broke the shackles of cable networking, wi-max took it a step ahead. Wi-max could just be the most significant technology todate, in making wireless access ubiquitous. 4G will enable wireless subscribers to view high-definition television programming through wireless broadband connections. Wi-fi applications in libraries is like any other implementation, the vital aspect to a successful wireless implementation is also good planning. Abstract: This article explores some of the major issues of wireless networks in libraries and components of the wi-fi technology are discussed. Fortunately, the technology has advanced considerably and can be deployed without sacrificing the security of library’s network. The weakness of security for all Ethernet networks is eavesdropping. The low-level media access rules that govern how Ethernet networks communicate follow the party-line telephone model. Infrastructure facilities require for the libraries to go wi-fi network. Abstract: This paper will cover few of the parts required for latest Wireless Technology in the field of Information Science as well as IT. Thanks to the work of the Specially Interested Group, a number of countries have opened the 2.4 GHz ISM band for Bluetooth technology and other wireless standards. Among other things achieved in 2004; contributed to changes of FCC Part 15.247 and ETSI EN 300 328 which cleared the path for adaptive frequency hopping and enhanced data rate in large areas of the world including the USA & Canada, Australia & New Zealand, essentially all countries in Europe, and many countries in South East Asia. Bluetooth wireless technology uses the 2.4 GHz ISM band, which is available and unlicensed in most countries. Abstract: We seem to recall a time when protocols and standards were two different things. In the past couple of years, the craze over new protocols has seemingly breathed new life into library information technology, replacing the doldrums of standards with the hope of new, universally accepted protocols. We must admit to being too young to have been there, but we wonder if things felt like this when MARC and Wireless LAN were poised to change the world of library automation as also in XML, OpenURL, and the Open Archives. An increased rate of mobility brought about by the Wireless LAN break through has given a new dimension to networking capabilities. The IEEE 802.11 defines standards for both 1-2 Mbps and higher speed wireless communication. The study of the PHY and the MAC layer as per the IEEE 802.11 protocols reveal that the issues like security and reliability of utmost importance in this type of networking. In short if higher speed networking of this kind can be created then there would be no need for the conventional physical medium communication. The role of XFML i.e. eXchangeable faceted metadata language gets defined in this context.
