Abstract: Application of technologies could create new possibilities to deal with the collections, organization and propagation of vast amount of information. In the library and information centre ICT is used as enabling technology for the acquisition, representation, storage, transmission, and use of resources in electronic form known as e-resources. Electronic resources are regarded as the mines of information that are explored through modern ICT devices, refined and redesigned and more often stored in the cyber space in the most concrete and compact form and can be accessed simultaneously from infinite points by a great number of audience. The libraries could not provide the adequate information to the academic communities including students and researchers at large due to the multi disciplinary research and proliferation of information which compelled the libraries to move from print to electronic sources. The electronic sources now available profusely on Internet, World Wide Web and Consortia including subject gateways facilitated the users to be with in the midst of the galaxy of information. The present study highlights the use, evaluation and management of e-resources in Central Library, Tezpur University where the user community take the opportunities to make the best use of e-resources provided by the said library. Abstract: The present study explains about INDEST-AICTE Consortium of MHRD and UGC-Infonet Consortium of INFLIBNET, UGC. It examines use of consortium by users of IIT (D) and Delhi University. The study was conducted on a sample of users of IIT (Delhi) and DU. A total number of 120 questionnaires were distributed among the users of IIT (D) and DU libraries, respectively, in the month of December ‘2007’.50 filled in questionnaire were received from IIT (D) users and 50 from DU users. Out of 100 only 90 were chosen for analysis of data and 10 questionnaires were rejected because of incomplete response from the respondents. The results have indicated that majority of users are aware about INDEST and UGC-Infonet Consortia at IIT, Delhi and Delhi University. Most of the users access e-journals and databases through INDEST and UGCInfonet consortia. Slow downloading, lack of maintenance, lack of training, lack of infrastructure and language etc. are the major problems that would discourage users for accessing resources on INDEST and UGC-Infonet. At the end, some suggestions have been provided for enhancing the use of resources available at INDEST and UGC-Infonet. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1311 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram, one of the constituent colleges of the Kerala Agricultural University, has been offering M Sc Degree in Soil Science since 1963. As part of the programme the students have to carry out research on an approved topic and submit the thesis. During the period of 1963 to 2010, 129 theses have been submitted in soil science. A study of the citations in a sample of 18 theses, selected at 10 year intervals is carried out with a view to ascertaining the characteristics of the information sources used by the scholars. The 18 theses selected as sample, altogether carries 1794 references distributed among different categories such as monographs and reference books (8.58%), papers in learned journals (68.84%), conference papers/ proceedings (4.12%), government publications (4.35%), theses (6.4%) and other (7.69%) which include technical reports, statistical bulletins and research reports. Analysing the age of cited items, the obsolescence rate of literature in soil science was calculated. Median citation age is found to be 11.13 years. Chronological variation in the various characteristics of the cited literature was also examined. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1649 Files in this item: 1
